What items should you throw out in a home fire ?

SERVPRO of Westminster is there to help in any disaster. House fires can be dangerous if not inspected and cleaned properly. Depending on the severity of the fire, technicians may have to dispose of many things such as carpet, walls, furniture, appliances and more. However, here are some things you can throw out and help our crew.

1. Throw out food

Any food that has been exposed to extreme heat (including canned food) must be thrown out. Look for signs of unpleasant odors, bulging, and char.

2. Any medicine

Same idea applies to any medication. They should be thrown out if they were exposed to extreme heat from the fire and have any signs of charring or odors.

3. Cosmetics

Although they are not edible or consumable, cosmetics still need to be thrown out or contaminated by the fire. Any makeup or skincare products must be thrown away if exposed to extreme heat and have char or odor. Any contaminated products can be hazardous if not disposed of properly.

4. Clothes

Some items such as clothes may be salvaged as long as there are no damages and odors to them. However, it is extremely important to inspect the clothing of children before deciding that it could still be salvaged. It is important to take the necessary precautions to restore your home and belongings.
